Recognizing Jesus Christ as the head of the church, the governance of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church can be described as elder led, deacon served, and congregationally governed. This means that:
- Overall leadership (care of souls, direction of program, oversight of teaching, and shaping of doctrine) is given by the body of elders.
- Deacons serve alongside the elders, managing the temporal affairs of the church (finances, property, and various committees as designated by the elders and congregation).
All ministry, however, takes place with the participation and approval of the congregation who selects the elders and deacons and votes on large-scale decisions. Meet our leaders below...
Elders
Kurt Strassner, pastor
Kurt
is responsible for the bulk of our teaching and provides overall leadership and vision at PRBC. He and his wife Tobey came to us in
2002 from his native Mississippi. In their spare
time, Kurt and Tobey enjoy reading (especially Christian biography),
late-night conversation, sipping good southern sweet tea ... and
especially loving on their children, Julia, Andrew, Silas, and Salome.
Keith Gorby
A native of Springfield, Ohio, Keith is studying Japanese
and may end up in Japan someday as a missionary. He and Carolyn have
an extensive ministry to international students - hosting one, two,
sometimes even three every year! The Gorby's have been at PRBC since
the early 80's and have three grown children - Jennifer, Sarah, and
Bryan - and Daniel still at home.
Charles Tassell
Charles and Regina met in his native
Michigan, moved to Cincinnati, and became a part of our church in the
mid-90's. The
Lord has given Charles a supply preaching ministry, both at PRBC and around town. Charles enjoys gaming and, with his kids, is
working his way up the multi-colored chain of Karate belts! The Tassells have three children, all at home: CJ, Regan, and Eliza.
Deacons
Scott Harig
Scott has charge over our member care ministries (benevolence, meals,
visitation, etc.). He and his wife Midge are native Cincinnatians and have two grown children - Rachel and Justin - and two
grandchildren. Since being converted at PRBC in 1991, God has given
the Harigs a passion for encouraging other married couples.
Gary Vaught
Gary
oversees the church's finances and business, as well as our
building and property. He and Carolyn are natives of Indiana, but have been involved at PRBC for over thirty
years! When he is not working on something for the church, you can
often locate Gary out on the local links!
He and Caroyln are blessed with two adult daughters - Monica and
Stephanie - and two grandchildren.
Mark Wells
Mark
is responsible for accommodations (audiovisual, music, greeters,
etc.) for our services of worship. He is married to Tammy, has three children (Austin, Issac, and Julie) and has been at PRBC since 2003. Through their son,
Austin, Mark and Tammy have been given quite a ministry of
encouragement to us, and to parents of disabled children.
